Mabuhay, Jiali Grade 7 students! During their English flexible curriculum period, students experienced the vibrant culture of the Philippines, shared by their friendly teacher, Mr. Kevin.
Students enthusiastically learned basic Filipino greetings like "Mabuhay" and "Salamat," and explored the country's rich history, delicious local dishes, and beautiful, world-famous islands. A key cultural lesson included practicing the respectful Filipino gesture, "mano," used to greet elders. The session ended with a fun Philippines Quiz Challenge, and we were incredibly impressed by how quickly and energetically students answered the questions. Some had even started using Filipino greetings between classes! Students truly enjoyed learning and growing together.

In their Grade 7 English Flexible class, students explored a topic close to home: the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) with teacher Kevin!
Students learned essential vocabulary related to travel and infrastructure, including platform, engine, pollution, ticket, passenger, and speed. The lesson featured a thrilling speed check challenge where students worked in teams to answer fun facts about the THSR in English. When Kevin asked why they liked the High Speed Rail, students shared their ideas in English, describing it as "very fast," "big and comfortable," and "earth-friendly." Our Grade 7 students didn't just sit in their seats—they went on a linguistic thrill ride! We transformed the classroom into an amusement park theme to make learning English feel like a day of vacation. 🎠We kicked things off with high-speed energy in Run–Answer–Run, where students raced to identify their favorite rides and shouted them out loud! To build their "theme park vocabulary," they matched pictures with words and watched videos to learn terms like roller coaster, water ride, carousel, and scavenger hunt.
The excitement continued with Lucky Dice! As the music played, students passed the die, and when the music stopped, the "lucky" winner had to answer a challenge question. We wrapped up the day with real conversations, as students practiced their speaking skills by sharing which rides they love most and why. It was a perfect mix of movement, vocabulary, and real-world English!
Our bilingual flexible class set off on an imaginary kayaking trip to Penghu with Mr. Kevin!

Our Grade 8 flexible class traveled north to Canada, the home of ice hockey! Students joined foreign teacher Kevin to learn all about Canada's national sport.
Through images, short videos, and group discussions, students built their sports vocabulary, mastering key terms like helmet, puck, skates, and stick, and practicing action words such as passed, shot, and scored. The class also explored the popular role of hockey in Canadian culture. This active lesson proved to be a fun way to connect English language skills with real-world topics, demonstrating great energy and excellent vocabulary!

The lesson began with an engaging picture guessing game. Students then completed a listening challenge called "Catch the Right Words," where they learned useful vocabulary related to fishing and the sea, such as bucket, net, seasick, and fisherman.
To practice collaboration and check their comprehension, students worked in teams on an activity called "The Big Catch". The class concluded with viewing a video and answering comprehension questions to successfully connect the language learned with real-world scenes of ocean life.
