Our city is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage, passion for literature, and strong commitment to education. After the government relocated to Taiwan, the competition for admission to prestigious schools became increasingly intense as families placed a high value on academic excellence. In 1960, a group of passionate people in the town decided to create a new school. They formed a committee, bought land in May, and by June, they had permission to start the Jiali Branch of a Junior High School!
In August 1960, the school welcomed its first six classes of students. Since there wasn’t a dedicated school building yet, classes were held at Jiali Elementary School. But just two years later, in 1962, we moved to our current location. In 1963, the school became independent and was named “Tainan County Jiali Junior High School.” The first principal was Mr. Li Zaishun. Our very first group of students graduated in July 1964.
In 1968, Taiwan introduced "Nine-Year Compulsory Education," and our school was renamed "Tainan County Jiali National High School." In 1973, we opened a special program for students who wanted to continue their education but had to pause it for various reasons. This program ran until 1990 and then resumed in 2000.
In 1974, a new branch, Jiaxing Branch, was set up and later became independent as "Tainan County Jiaxing Junior High School." In 1999, Tainan County and City merged, and our school was renamed "Tainan Municipal Jiali Junior High School."
Each principal brought something special to the school. Mr. Li Zaishun laid a strong foundation. Mr. Li Wenshui worked hard to improve the school. Mr. Wang Chengzhu thought deeply about every decision. Mr. Xu Xiannan managed everything meticulously.
Principal Ke Yinde, in 1985, brought innovation and used different resources to solve many challenges. This helped our school grow and shine. After him, other principals continued to improve the campus. In 1994, Principal Wang Muchao led the construction of the magnificent Xiaolong Building and a vibrant square, making our school even more beautiful
In 2012, Mr. Chen Zhongqing became principal again. Under his leadership, the vision of “Excellence in Education and Ambition” was realized. By 2020, new buildings were completed, making our school look modern and lively! In 2017, Jiali Junior High School opened the “Tainan Jiali Maker Education and Technology Center,” focusing on science and technology education to inspire students’ creativity and problem-solving skills.
Our school offers a variety of clubs like the wind orchestra, string orchestra, football team, kendo club, robotics club, and many more. Our teams have proudly represented Tainan City in national competitions, showcasing the talents and dreams of our students!
In 2020, we established a music class to nurture students with a passion for music. In 2021, Hougang Junior High School merged with us, becoming the Hougang Campus of Jiali Junior High School. This was the first junior high school merger in Taiwan. The new principal, Ms. Li Yuehua, planned exciting additions like a Career Exploration Center to benefit even more students in the area.
Our school’s journey is marked by unwavering dedication, continuous growth, and countless achievements. From humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of education in our community, every step of our development has been supported by passionate teachers, hardworking students, and devoted parents. With their encouragement, we have overcome challenges and embraced opportunities, always striving to provide the best learning environment for our students. As we look to the future, we are excited to build on our legacy, innovate in our teaching methods, and empower the next generation of leaders, artists, and thinkers. Together, we will continue to soar to new heights, full of hope, ambition, and the determination to make a positive impact in the world.
