Whether you pursue an employment opportunity through LinkedIn or any other forum, you are responsible for performing due diligence in researching employers when applying for or accepting employment and for thoroughly researching the facts and reputation of each organization.
Strategies:
Google a company name to see if they have a legit website
If a company does not have a legit website, contact them and request for more information including the companies location, how many employees they have, and a link to their website
Google the business name and include scam in the search. For example, “Apple Inc Scam.”
Read the Department of Labor’s policies on unpaid Internships (PDF) to see if the company complies to these regulations
