Our normal processing time for CPT is 5 business days. However, CPT requests are commonly delayed due to errors or omissions on the request form or employment letter. Apply for and receive CPT authorization BEFORE beginning employment. Authorization cannot be backdated.
All highlighted areas must be completed before submission.
Students explain how the work related to the major in 150-200 words and submit the form along with a detailed job description to your program chair or internship faculty mentor.
Your program chair or internship faculty mentor reviews your employment details and signs the form for the student.
If the student is enrolled in a degree program that requires CPT, select the "required" box and skip "Registrar's Office Approved CPT course".
If the student takes a required practicum and internship course, please fill out the course code and number of credits in the form.
After receiving signature from faculty, students complete the CPT Authorization Form.

The "Initial Application" box is used for first time application and the application to change a new employer.
The Start Date must be a future date. Please note that CPT cannot be backdated. DO NOT begin any employment until CPT has been approved and authorized on your I-20.
Full- Time: More than 20 hours per week; Part-time: 20 hours or less per week.
