NCES Family and Community,

It is a pleasure to represent Norton Commons Elementary as the principal. I truly believe this school is an incredible place and I look forward to building on the shoulders of the great work started by the previous leadership, staff, and families as we move into the future. I have been blessed to be in education for my entire professional career serving in Oldham County, Anchorage independent School District and now in JCPS. Serving all levels of education first as a Spanish teacher, then as an administrator at the high school level and then as a principal of a k-8 school before moving to NCES. I have an incredible family who is number one in my life with children both out of the house as well as school aged children in middle and high school. My incredible wife and backbone of our family is also in education so we live and breathe school in the Terry household.

Again, I am so excited to work alongside the incredible educators here at NCES as well as the students and families to continue creating a nurturing and loving environment where students grow both academically, physically and emotionally here as a Knight.

Serving as an educator for over 20 years, many of which as a school administrator in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), I have had the privilege of working with students at all grade levels from K-12.  In that time, I have found the elementary level to be quite impactful to student success and am fortunate to be part of the school community at Norton Commons.  I have three children, two of whom graduated from JCPS and another who currently attends a JCPS school.  Just as the needs of my children have been met, I work diligently to ensure that our students' needs are met.  

I am grateful to be part of an amazing staff in serving as your assistant principal.  Together, we work as a team to meet the needs of our students.  Our goal is to ensure that your child feels a sense of belonging and confidence in reaching his/her potential.  Building relationships is critical in creating an environment conducive to learning and belonging.  I value building relationships with students and empowering them to accept responsibility for their individual growth while also supporting them in that work.

Hello NCES Knights!

I am thrilled to be your school counselor at Norton Commons Elementary School (NCES). Before arriving at NCES, I had the pleasure of serving as a third-grade teacher for seven years and a behavior coach for one year. As a teacher, my greatest job satisfaction would occur when a family would tell me that their child liked school for the first time while in my classroom. That’s powerful!

At NCES, we promote our Acts of Valor (characteristics that great NCES Knights exhibit) as a guide for our schoolwide social/emotional learning. This includes monthly guidance and embedding these Acts of Valor into our daily activities. I will also conduct small groups, plan schoolwide events, and work with families to help serve the needs of our students!
