At JCPS, we offer multiple ways to support high-achieving students—Gifted & Talented (GT) services and the Advance Program. While both programs begin in 4th grade, they are not the same.
Designed for students formally identified as gifted in one or more areas (e.g., intellectual, academic, creative, leadership, or the arts).
Identification is based on state criteria and assessments.
GT services are tailored to meet the unique needs of gifted learners.
Designed for academic high-achievers based on grades and test scores.
Not all students in the Advance Program are identified as gifted.
Focuses on advanced instruction and differentiation opportunities.
Yes! A student can be identified as Gifted and also be placed in the Advance Program if they meet the criteria for both.
