The state of Kentucky identifies five areas in which students may be recognized as gifted:
General Intellectual Ability (GIA)
Specific Academic Aptitude (SAA)
Creativity
Leadership
Visual and Performing Arts
To be formally identified in any of these areas, students must demonstrate at least three pieces of evidence showing exceptional ability.
At JCPS, we are dedicated to using best practices and current research to ensure that the identification process is equitable and inclusive for all students across all gifted areas.
If you believe your child may be gifted in one or more of these areas, we encourage you to reach out to the Gifted and Talented Lead at your child’s school for more information and support.
