After over a year of gathering input from educators, parents, and community leaders, the Indiana State Board of Education (SBOE) has approved new high school diploma requirements. These changes, effective for the Class of 2029, aim to provide students with more flexibility to personalize their education and better align with their future goals.
The new diploma includes:
A single base diploma with minimum credit requirements in core subjects (English, math, science, social studies, physical education, and health).
Readiness seals that allow students to showcase their achievements in areas like enrollment (college readiness), employment (workforce skills), and enlistment (military service).
These seals, developed with input from colleges, businesses, and military representatives, help students create a clear pathway to success while maintaining flexibility to pivot as interests evolve.
Much more information, including sample 9th grade schedules, will be shared at the JCHS Scheduling Conference on Monday, January 13th. More specific information will be shared with students later in January during scheduling meetings at JCMS.Â
