The North Carolina Governor’s School is the nation’s oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students. It brings together academically and artistically talented students from across the state to live and learn on a university campus for four weeks in the summer — at no cost to families.
Students explore advanced topics in academics or the arts, build connections with other motivated students, and experience a unique learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth.
11th Graders: Eligible in all areas (Academics and Arts)
10th Graders: Eligible only in the Arts (Dance, Choral Music, Instrumental Music)
Students must also meet at least one of the following:
Unweighted GPA of 3.25 or higher OR weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
Score of 4+ on an NC End-of-Course exam OR 3+ on an AP exam
Grade of B or higher in a Career College Promise or University course
Minimum composite score of 19 on Pre-ACT/ACT or 1010 on PSAT/SAT
Minimum score at the 90th percentile on an aptitude assessment
