We will add you to our list!
What To Expect
Parent Volunteers are a wonderful support staff to our dance teachers, office staff, alumni & assistants on recital day. As teachers are busy organizing their next class to take the stage, our volunteers help us keep our students comfortable, calm and organized before they take the stage. We typically need more hands for our classes under age 8, but we welcome parent volunteers for students of all ages!
Some responsibilities may include:
Monitoring noise level in the dressing rooms and keeping the class under control while they wait for their turn on stage,
Help organize bathroom runs for our tiny dancers between dances,
Be sure the class you are responsible for is accounted for when the class is "on deck" (preparing to take the stage next),
Be sure dancers are stage ready!
Parent Volunteers are permitted BACKSTAGE to watch their child dance from the wings! This is a fun experience that gets you closer than you can from a seat in the audience!
An email will be sent to any parent volunteers regarding recital specifics or updates the last week of classes at JCDA.
We ask that you check in with us at DRESS REHEARSAL for us to give you a tour of the dressing rooms, and review your contact information. We can also answer any questions you have at that time.
Recital Day Plan
PARENT VOLUNTEERS MUST ARRIVE 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE SHOW FOR ASSIGNMENTS AND INFORMATION, and MUST stay until the end of the show!
You will be handed a Parent Volunteer Tag so our staff can easily identify you, an attendance sheet for the class you are responsible for, and a small gift of thanks from us to you!
Please keep track of the kids and encourage them to settle in with each other with the color sheets/busy bags we will provide.
Please be sure your students have appropriate food and drink available. (no red dyes, sticky snacks, or anything that would create a potential stain.) Please encourage your group to clean up after themselves.
When it is time for your class to head backstage to dance, an instructor will lead them to where they need to be. You are welcome to join and watch from backstage! If your child is dancing in a different class, please hand over temporary responsibility to another parent volunteer/teacher.
In the unlikely event of an emergency, please contact your staff liaison in the room, or the back stage manager. We will handle it in the best way we need to.
A Few Important Notes
For the most part, parents ARE NOT permitted to come backstage during the show. If there is an emergency or a situation we need to speak with you, we will contact you with the number on file from your recital package form. Children must be SIGNED OUT by a parent to leave the performance early with our backstage staff.
Children are not permitted to touch equipment in the rooms. This includes instruments, as well as electrical equipment.
JCDA and Cardinal O'Hara are NOT RESPONSIBLE for any lost or stolen items, including electronics. We have advised parents to leave them at home, however if they choose to bring them it will be their responsibility to keep safe.
Thank you for your consideration and support!
