Sights & Sites of the 2026 Italy Trip
In Rome, we visit the archeological sites of the Circus Maximus, Palatine Hill, the Forum, the Colosseum, the Mamertine Prison (Tullianum), Trajan's Column & Markets. Greek & Roman exhibits are seen at the Vatican & Capitoline Museums. We aim to visit the Sistine Chapel, Santa Maria 'Ara Coeli,' and Santa Maria dell' Anima. We tour the magnificent (still privately owned) palace of the Galleria Colonna houses an unparalleled collection of Renaissance pictorial art.
Outside Rome, we explore the ancient port of Rome at Ostia and also spend a day at the city of Orvieto founded by the Etruscans, with its historic Duomo (cathedral) and double helix well of San Patrizio.
In the south of Italy, from our base at the Villa Vergiliana, we visit the archeological sites of Greco-Roman Cumae, Pompeii & Herculaneum, the Roman villa at Posillipo, the Piscina Mirabilis at Bacoli and the Pozzuoli Amphitheater. We spend a day on the magical island of Capri, visiting the towns of Capri and Anacapri, and tour the historic Villa San Michele. The National Museum of Archeology, located in a Bourbon palace in Naples, houses many of the treasures from Greek and Roman settlements in the Bay of Naples, which makes it a vital stop on our tour. Finally, we ascend Mount Vesuvius, where agile students climb to the summit and can purchase very expensive Coca Cola.
