Dedicate a minimum of 15 hours per week progressing through my coursework
Keep in mind that minimum effort typically produces minimum results
Stay in the loop by checking my school email on a regular basis
Ask for help when I need it from my Academy Specialist, Coordinator, and my Parents
Take pride in my work by actively reading / listening to content, watching videos, taking notes, and using my resources on quizzes and tests
Use the built in tools and interventions to help me succeed
Buying into the myth that Online Learning is easier than Traditional Learning
Ignoring my Academy Specialists and Coordinator when they try to communicate with me or my parents
Flying through the lessons and assignments to get to the quizzes and tests
Getting behind in my pacing and coursework while not asking for help or utilizing the built-in interventions
Becoming a truancy risk by not taking my educational responsibilities seriously
The Virtual Academy will examine two key metrics, course progress and online activity, when reporting student attendance. Data has shown a strong correlation between completion percentage and total active hours spent in the learning management systems. The following guidelines will be used to determine satisfactory attendance in our online environment:
Students are expected to make required progress in their courses each week to meet attendance expectations. Both Edgenuity and Lincoln Learning systems provide students with progress reports to communicate if a student is making adequate progress in each of their classes. If a student falls behind in their course progress, they will be required to put in extra time to catch back up with their coursework. Students who are ahead in their coursework with passing grades will be exempt from the Online Activity requirement for the week.
Students are expected to login and complete their online assignments each day for a minimum of three (3) hours each day or a total of fifteen (15) hours each week. These numbers are based on a full five day school week. Time spent on unplugged or workbook activities will count towards this weekly total although the system will have no way of tracking these times.
The Wednesday Report will be generated on Wednesday morning of each week to report inactivity in student accounts. If your child has not logged into the system by Wednesday an email will be generated and sent to the student, the parents, and the school principal to notify them of the situation.
Attendance Reports will be turned in to the Attendance Office on Mondays for the previous week. Students who are not keeping up with their Course Progress will be reported absent based on their Online Activity. For the most up-to-date attendance information about your child, please call the main office and ask for the Attendance Secretary. The table provided indicates how many days a student will be reported absent for the week based on their Online Activity:
