Creating a daily schedule is critical to surviving in a digital environment. If you create a schedule that doesn't seem to be working don't give up! Try sampling different schedules during a school week to see which one is most successful and beneficial to you. It might take several attempts, but finding a routine that complements your learning style and interests will feel incredibly rewarding. There is no pressure or rush to have the online school system figured out right away, we all understand that students and families will need some time to adjust. An example of a daily schedule is available here. Click here for an editable version to create your own using Google Docs.
You might use eNotes through your LMS, or you might use a pen and paper, but rephrasing what you learn in your own words helps you pay attention and remember what you've learned. We do this in class all the time, an online environment should be no different.
Make sure you stay up to date and on pace with your assignments. If you fall too far behind, it gets hard to catch up later. Recommended pacing for K - 5 students is 1 unit per course per day. Recommended pacing for 6 - 12 students is 5% progress per course per week. If you are having a touch time staying on pace, contact your Virtual Academy Specialist during their scheduled office hours for assistance.
If you don't understand something, tell your Virtual Academy Specialists during their scheduled office hours. He or she can explain it in a different way and point you toward other online resources. If your question can't wait until your next office hours appointment, reach out to our Virtual Academy Coordinator for a 1 on 1 support session.
It's never okay to copy and paste other people's work and submit it as your own. When gathering information online, remember to cite your sources or rephrase ideas in your own words.
It is very important that you follow the directions and read, watch, and try within the lesson. Many misunderstandings stem from not reading and following specific directions.
