Trout in the Classroom

Trout in the Classroom

We raise rainbow trout fish here at Elms. It's true! Mrs. Konopack oversees the process with the help of students. The eggs arrive in October. Students count the eggs, measure and feed the fish, change the tank water, and monitor the pH. In the spring, when the trout are fully grown, they are released in a stream at the Jackson Forestry Center.

Fun Fact: Rainbow Trout can grow as long as 4 feet and weigh up to 53 pounds.
