Aquaponics

Aquaponics

Aquaponics is the raising of fish and plants in a recirculating ecosystem. The fish waste provides nutrients for the plants. Bacteria and plants help to clean the water for the fish. We received our Aquaponics system in 2018 thanks to our former Vice Principal, Mr. Levinson and a grant from Sustainable Jersey for Schools. Since 2019, Mrs. Konopack has been overseeing the system with the help of both the Green Team and students throughout the building. Some foods that have been grown include bok choy, swiss chard, tomatoes, basil, mint, and lollo lettuce. The fish in the tank are tilapias and plecos.
