On Thursday, November 6, a group of Marengo FFA members traveled to the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines for the Youth Swine Judging Contest hosted by Iowa Pork Producers.
Carter Koenig was the top scorer for Marengo FFA, placing 23rd place out of 487 students in the senior division.
The high-scoring team of Carter Koenig, Avary Helmrichs, and Abby Sparrowgrove also earned 17th place out of 120 teams!
On Tuesday, October 8, the Marengo FFA had 22 students participate. There were 500 students and over 140 teams that participated.
Jaylee Becker earned 12th place overall and Ronald Hull earned 6th Place in Sheeps & Goats.

The Mrengo FFA put their land and soil evaluation skills to the test and participated in the Quad County Soil Judging Competition in rural Montezuma.
Congratulations to the Iowa Valley Soil Judging Team of Carter Koenig, Patrick Peach, Brody Hudepohl, and Derek Sherman for placing 1st Place in the junior devision contest!
There were 15 junior division teams and 79 competitors.
The SE District FFA Livestock Judging Contest was held on Tuesday, June 10. Sixteen FFA teams from Southeastern Iowa competed in the competition. Fifty students participated individually and on teams. Members judged 8 different classes of sheep, swine, goats and cattle. The students also had to give an oral reasoning of their placings of the class for three of the classes.
The Marengo FFA Team of Alannah McKibben, Avary Helmrichs and Ryker Helmrichs ranked 7th place overall as a team score!

The FFA Livestock Judging Contest is designed to exercise and reward students for developing knowledge, reasoning, and communication skills related to livestock evaluation and selection.
Marengo FFA students put their skills to the test at the Kirkwood Horticulture Landscape Challenge, an event designed to introduce students to the world of landscaping, turfgrass management, and horticulture through hands-on competitions and industry-led education.
𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 – 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 operated a Vermeer Mini Skid Steer, carefully transporting a water-filled pallet without spilling a drop!
𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 – 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐊𝐨𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐠, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐲𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐥 worked together to build a 5x5 ft paver layout, earning them second place.
𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 – 𝐈𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐌𝐜𝐂𝐚𝐰, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐮𝐥𝐥 successfully assembled a fully functional irrigation system using PVC pipe and Hunter irrigation heads,
Students also participated in educational sessions led by industry professionals and got hands-on experience with tools, techniques, and potential career paths in horticulture.
