PF has been Northwood's largest and most popular speech or debate event, consisting of a team of over 40 members. This large group reduces individual prep work and provides for an extensive support system with plenty of opportunities for practice debates.
PF is one of the easier debates to learn, making it accessible to anyone and everyone regardless of prior experience. While the basic structure is kept simple, the nuances allow for endless room to advance, and PF is a very competitive event.
All PF topics encompass real-world issues that are either national propositions or international relations. Essentially, you debate topics that appear in the news daily, providing critical general knowledge valuable for History classrooms and political discussion settings.
You will have someone by your side through thick and thin; to endure the losses and celebrate the wins with. A partner event allows for maximizing research and strategizing effectively during rounds.
Weeks before you actually compete, you will know and understand the topic completely. Having prepared various arguments, refutations, and analysis on all perspectives of the topic, you will enter every round with satisfaction and confidence.
There are no bizarre requirements regarding speaking style or technicality in Public Forum: you can debate in a civil, composed manner. You will learn to apply effective communication and persuasion techniques to appeal to both trained judges and to the layman. You choose how to present yourself and your content within the rules.
Past Topics Include:
Pharmaceutical Industry, Medicare For All, Arms Trade with Saudi Arabia, Cybersecurity, NATO, and more
