Trauma-informed — understanding how experiences impact behavior and emotions
Culturally responsive — honoring each child’s background and identity
Relationship-centered — building trust and connection first
Strengths-based — focusing on what children can do and how they grow
Families are an essential part of the support team. I value open communication, collaboration, and shared problem-solving. My goal is always to work alongside families to best support each child’s growth and success.
Hi! My name is Danielle Symes, and I am your Elementary Resource Counselor (ERC) here at Cadence Park K-8. I have been working in the Irvine Unified School District, providing Mental Health & Wellness support, for about 3 years, and I am also a proud IUSD alum — Go Woodbridge!
I earned my B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine, and my M.A. in Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential from Chapman University. My professional journey is rooted in supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic growth.
As a first-generation college graduate and immigrant from Johannesburg, South Africa, my lived experiences have shaped my strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and helping every child feel a true sense of belonging. I am inspired by human stories, self-expression, and the unique strengths each student brings into our school community.
I chose to work in education because I believe schools have the power to shape not only academic success, but also confident, compassionate, and resilient human beings. My goal is to help students feel seen, valued, and supported as they grow — and to partner closely with families to nurture the holistic development of their kiddos!
I am so grateful to be part of the Cadence Park community and look forward to working together to support your child’s well-being and success.
Warmly,
Danielle Symes

A Helping Hand and a Listening Ear
When we meet, my door is always open, and my heart is ready to listen! Think of our time together as a "safe harbor", a place where you can be exactly who you are without any judgment. Whether you want to talk about making new friends, feeling a little worried, or just need a quiet break, I am here for you.
In our sessions, we keep things fun and relaxed. Depending on what you need that day, we might play a game, read a favorite story, practice some "calm-down" breathing, or work on a plan to help you shine in class. Most importantly, what we talk about stays between us (unless I need to help keep you safe), so you can always feel at home here.
