Hello Northwood Families and Students!
My name is Mr. Holton. I am very excited to be your 4th and 5th grade teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. This is my 8th year at Northwood. I am excited to be continuing to teach 4th grade and even more excited to be back teaching 5th grade... where I started my teaching career, here at Northwood. This year our class theme is going to parallel some of the Nasa missions, with themes of Perseverance, Resilience, and Curiosity. Make sure you take a look around the classroom to see some fun Nasa and space themed items around the room!
A little about me:
I am married to my high school sweetheart and have a daughter, who is also a Highwheeler! I like to learn, whether it be through books, school, or going out and trying new things. Since becoming a Highwheeler myself, I have run over 15 half-marathons, started learning the guitar, challenge myself with all-trail mountain biking, and most recently, this summer, finally started surfing! I believe anything is possible, you just have to have the right mindset and grit to "get it done."
In school I most struggled with reading comprehension and math computations. Both were areas of school that I struggled with and spent many years trying to catch up on. When I went to earn my undergraduate degree from CSU, San Marcos, I pursued and completed a Bachelor's in Literature Studies. My favorite subject to teach is math and if I could go back right now to earn another degree, I believe it would be in math. I finished my schooling with a M.Ed, Masters in Education, from Concordia University Irvine.
I am out of this world excited to jump into this very important mission and year with each and every one of you. See you all in "Mission Control."
