These are reflections of my hands-on teaching experiences. This highlights the lessons I've learned, the challenges I have faced in field, and the growth I've achieved through having real-world practice. My field experience has been instrumental in my growth as an educator. They have allowed me to apply what I've learned in practical settings. I've been able to refine my teaching techniques, and build meaningful relationships with students.
Key Insights from Weekly Reflections – Some important moments in my reflections were me building relationships with my students. I loved to see how my days went when I was building stronger relationships versus the days when I struggled with the surroundings. Overall, the most important part was seeing how I adjusted to the things around me and worked to make the best out of what felt tough. I realized just how much I wanted to be a teacher.
Connections to Lesson Planning – My reflections help me adapt instruction to meet student needs by showing me what students are continuing to show me. One great example is how the students work on their projects. I noticed, before we wrote our lessons, that the groups of students we were wroking with often needed a bit more time on projects. Not only because of block scheduling, but also because they would often get distracted or off task. I adjusted my lesson to be a multi-day lesson to allow for them to have time to work on the project.
Growth as an Educator – The biggest change in my perspective was understanding just how important resources truly are to students. I've always included lots of ideation sheets and resources to help guide students to deliver the strongest work possible. I think seeing students truly using it and how much WIDA differentiation can aid a students allowed for a big shift in my perspective. I also adjusted my teaching strategies over time by understanding more how students work in real-world experience. I got to understand how to shift lessons and I know I'll take some tips with me about having built in days for extra work time!
