Why is AT important?

AT is of fundamental importance to students with disabilities, because it:

• enhances their learning experiences;

• improves their functional abilities (e.g., communication, mobility, and learning);

• boosts their academic performance and independence;

• offers an equitable learning environment;

• supports their placement in the least restrictive environment (LRE); and

• increases their opportunities for competitive employment (Ok et al., 2022).
