The SETT framework is a comprehensive guide for selecting appropriate AT devices (Dell et al., 2017). This framework focuses on four key aspects: (a) student, (b) environments, (c) tasks, and (d) technology tools. The following paragraphs will explain these key aspects in detail.
(a) Student: Accurate information about the student (e.g., age, grade level, strengths, interests, and weaknesses) must be gathered.
(b) Environments: The nature of the environments (e.g., physical arrangement, instructional schedule, availability of resources and supports, and special concerns), in which the student spends the majority of his, her, or their time, must be fully considered.
(c) Tasks: Detailed information about the tasks (e.g., activities that take place in the environments and their elements) that need to be performed by the student must be collected.
(d) Technology Tools: After gathering information about the aforementioned aspects, the IEP team can explore the options for low-tech, mid-tech, or high-tech devices to support the student's learning.
