About Me

My name is Abby Mueller and I am from St. Louis, Missouri, but moved to Indianapolis to start school in August of 2019. I'm currently a second year student at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. I am studying Psychology on the Pre-Occupational therapy track and receiving a minor in Spanish. My future career goal is to receive my doctorate in Occupational therapy and work with children who have disabilities. My mom would be my biggest role model when relating to my career path. She has taught children with special needs for 17 years. She has always treated her students not as different, but as a child who needs to be cared for. I remember days sitting in my mom's classroom and always putting the child's best interest first. She doesn't baby them, but doesn't expect too much out of them, she has set her students up for success. These experiences have drove my passion to end the discrimination and stigma around people who have disabilities and is the sole reason why I have devoted myself to this career field.

Strengths

  • Adaptability

  • Teamwork

  • Determination

Team work has been a huge emphasis at my site. We may face different tasks individually, but the team is always there for assistance and we discuss difficult tasks at lab meeting. I have grown to adapt for my team. For example, my supervisor has needed me to go back and redo my mistakes. My daily job at my site is coding different lab reports into redcap. This can get boring after multiple hours, but I have stayed determined to reach my goal each week for my team.

Who am I as a professional?

My internship has taught me a lot about what it is like to be in a professional work field. As a professional, I try to to put my best foot forward and will work hard to complete a task. I like my deadlines to be written out before starting a project and I don't like them to change as it is difficult for me to keep up with changing due dates. As a team member, I believe that I represent myself well when speaking and being confident in my decisions while working.
