Luke is in his fifth year of the Civil Engineering program at the University of Manitoba. Having been Vice President last year, Luke is excited to continue to contribute to the student chapter in new and exciting ways as well as to help grow their Sandbox Design Team. He has a keen interest in street design and transit planning, and strives to create a positive impact within the community.
Over the last few years Luke has had the opportunity to expand his skills and gain industry experience across Manitoba. From working at Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure as a data technician, or most recently, at the City of Winnipeg’s Transportation Division where he assisted engineers in reviewing high speed school zones, helping to identify street safety improvements. With over two years of experience, Luke enjoys discovering how the design of our transportation systems influences user behavior, which is particularly important in transportation engineering and planning.
Luke’s passion for transportation isn’t just contained to his studies as he loves to learn about cities and the way we get around them in his free time, spending many hours combing through google maps. He enjoys hanging out with friends, going to live music events, playing video games and has recently started playing Magic the Gathering.
Ella is a fifth-year Civil Engineering student with two years of hands-on involvement with ITE before joining the executive team. She is excited to take on a larger role within the student chapter and contribute to its continued growth and success. She has a particular interest in transportation engineering, roadway design, and infrastructure development.
Ella has gained experience in both the design and construction sides of the industry. She has worked with the Manitoba Government in building inspections and with contractors on the construction of roadways, bike lanes, multi-use paths, and other infrastructure projects across Manitoba. She especially enjoys seeing the engineering process come together from design and planning through to construction in the field.
Outside of transportation and engineering, Ella loves exploring the city and spending time outdoors. If you can’t find her on campus, there’s a good chance she’s travelling somewhere new or camping somewhere in Manitoba.
Alexandre is a fourth year Civil Engineering student pursing a stream in transportation. He passionate about all things transportation, with a specific interest in public transit. Alexandre has had the opportunity to serve as Social Chair last year, where he enjoyed organizing both social and outreach events.
Alexandre has experience working as an Engineer Assistant for Winnipeg Transit where he learned about both transit infrastructure and high-level planning that shapes how the system operates and its long-term direction. He also has experience working as an Engineering Inspector Aide working for Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure in the highway department. Alexandre learned the ins and out of highway construction projects, conducting primarily field surveys using GPS and total stations to establish accurate elevations.
In his free time, you’ll likely find Alexandre hiking, camping or snowboarding. He is excited for the upcoming school year and is looking forward to contributing to ITE.
Ryssa is a Civil Engineering student in her final year at the University of Manitoba. Through her coursework and involvement in other civil engineering student groups, she has developed an interest in transportation engineering and the role that well-designed transportation systems play in creating safer and more connected communities.
Her experience has spanned different areas of civil engineering, including a summer work term focused on hydraulic and structural engineering. Through UMITE, she hopes to continue exploring transportation engineering and learn more about the field.
Outside of engineering, she enjoys travelling, playing guitar, and crafting. She looks forward to meeting new people, learning more about the transportation industry, and contributing to another great year with UMITE.
Hannah is a fifth-year Civil Engineering student at the University of Manitoba and has been a member of UMITE since last year. Through her experiences in the transportation industry and as a user of different transportation systems, she has developed a strong interest in transportation engineering and the role it plays in shaping how people move around their communities.
Hannah has gained hands-on experience with Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure, working in highway design and across the Eastern Region. Her experience includes road construction, density testing, and pavement inspection, giving her an opportunity to see different aspects of transportation infrastructure both in the office and in the field. These experiences have helped her develop a greater appreciation for how transportation systems are designed, constructed, and maintained.
Through her involvement with UMITE, Hannah is excited to continue learning about the transportation industry, connect with others in the field, and contribute to the student chapter.
Outside of engineering, she enjoys riding her bike around the city, travelling, hiking, and trying out new cafés and bakeries.
Truston is completing his final year of a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. He is passionate about the application of environmental services in urban infrastructure developments and sustainable building practices. He has experience as an Engineering Inspector Aide at Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure where he learned how to conduct construction site inspections, reconnaissance surveys, and submit project proposals to federal agencies.
He is excited to be a part of the UMITE executive team and can’t wait to use his administrative skills to boost student outreach and act as a liaison on all things related to transportation engineering.
In his free time, Truston enjoys hobbies such as dancing, junk journaling, hiking, and most importantly, appreciating nature. If you see him around campus don’t be shy to say hi!
Dr. Giuseppe Grande is an instructor in the Department of Engineering Education at the University of Manitoba. He finished his Ph.D. in transportation engineering in 2021. His research focused on traffic patterns, traffic monitoring technologies, and the applications of traffic data. He went on to complete a bachelor's degree in education in 2024. His studies have afforded him opportunities to teach topics in engineering, math, and physics in high school and university classrooms. His most recent research contributions in transportation engineering were with the Urban Mobility and Transportation Informatics Groups (UMTIG) at the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Grande is also an alum of the University of Manitoba ITE student chapter. He spent five years as a student executive member and won two Candian traffic bowl competitions. Now, he is excited to combine his transportation engineering background with his educational experience to lead future generations of the student chapter.
