Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU)

UMSU established in 1968 and officially inaugurated in 1974, has evolved from its origins as the Faculty of Muhammadiyah Islamic Law and Philosophy Faculty (FAFHIM) into a prominent private university in Medan, North Sumatra. Under the leadership of Rector Dr. Agussani, M.AP, UMSU has expanded its academic offerings to include eight faculties and a postgraduate school, encompassing disciplines such as Islamic Religion, Teacher Training and Education, Social & Political Sciences, Agriculture, Economy & Business, Law, Engineering, and Medicine. The university has also achieved an 'A' accreditation from BAN-PT, distinguishing it as the only private university in Sumatra with this rating.

In line with its vision to become a world-class, internationally engaged Muhammadiyah university by 2033, UMSU has established an International Affairs Office and initiated plans for a unified campus. The university's commitment to global engagement is further demonstrated through its active participation in the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) SEA-Teacher Project. Since 2016, UMSU's Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) has been a consistent partner in facilitating reciprocal exchanges of pre-service teachers across ASEAN countries. The program, which resumed in 2023 after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has strengthened ties with institutions in Thailand and the Philippines, including Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University, Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology, and Central Luzon State University.

Beyond classroom immersion, UMSU engages in broader SEAMEO initiatives such as SEA-TVET, and in March 2025, it formalized its collaboration with ISUFST through a Memorandum of Understanding encompassing teacher exchanges, joint research, and international seminars. This partnership underscores UMSU's long-term commitment to regional integration, intercultural learning, and educator development in Southeast Asia.
