When I first arrived at UMSU, the students and coordinators welcomed me with open arms. They were not just polite they were genuinely excited to meet us. I remember their warm smiles and the way they patiently helped us even with the smallest things, like showing us around campus or translating whenever I was confused. What stood out the most was how approachable and friendly they were. Even though some struggled with English, they always found ways to communicate, whether through gestures, laughter, or simple words. Their kindness made me feel less like a stranger in a new country and more like I had found new friends who wanted me to feel at home.
At Al-Amjad Islamic School, the teachers and students touched my heart in a different way. The cooperating teacher assigned to me, Umi Indah, treated me like a younger colleague rather than just a visitor. She guided me patiently, making sure I felt supported while also giving me the space to try my own style of teaching. The students were lively, respectful, and curious. What amazed me was their willingness to participate even if language was a barrier. Some would giggle when I struggled with Bahasa, but instead of making me feel embarrassed, they helped me learn. Their laughter, enthusiasm, and eagerness to engage in my activities made every class memorable.
I am truly grateful to Kath and Rojeal for being my constant companions throughout my SEA-Teacher journey. From the very beginning, they were not just fellow participants but also true friends who made every challenge lighter and every moment more meaningful. Their laughter, encouragement, and genuine care turned ordinary days into memorable experiences. Whether we were preparing lessons, exploring new places, or simply sharing stories after a long day, their presence reminded me that I was never alone in this journey. Kath and Rojeal’s friendship became one of the most valuable gifts I gained in Indonesia, and I will always cherish the bond we built together.
These people students, teachers, and friends from UMSU and Al-Amjad were more than just acquaintances during my stay. They became my family away from home, filling my days with warmth, support, and genuine friendship. Their openness and sincerity are things I will never forget, and they made my journey in Indonesia not just an academic experience but a heartfelt personal one.
