Whether you are new to ISS or returning for another school year, we are thrilled you are part of the ISS family. We’ve been told the sense of community here is ‘real’. Our hope is that you find it a warm and friendly place to belong and your children find it a vibrant and diverse place to learn and grow. We are excited your family has joined the ISS community! On the next few pages, you will find information that may help with the transition.
To start at ISS, we need parents to go over the supplementary information. It only takes a few minutes to complete, but it is necessary for us as a school to have up to date medical information, billing information, parents' permission for students to go on field trips or to have photos shared on our website or social media. You can find these forms on the iSAMS portal. Using the account you created either during the admissions process, or after you received your starting information please log in and select "Interactive" --> "Electronic Forms"
ISS school days start at 8:30 and end at 15:15.
Early Years (preschool) to grade 5 start with a “meet the teacher" opportunity. This usually lasts around 30 minutes and is a chance to visit classrooms, meet your teacher and exchange information. Children can then start the following day. You will receive an e mail the second week of August to arrange a time. Having your iSAMS account set up is essential for this process.
Please note that early years 3 - 4 children start with 5 half days - 8:30 until 12:00. Please supply a water bottle and snack.
EY 3 and 4 children must be fully toilet trained.
Kindergarten (Year 1) to grade 5 (Year 6) start full time the day after their “meet the teacher”.
Middle and High School Grade 6 - 12 (Year 7-13) students have an orientation before starting full time. Middle Middle School students start the next day, High School the same day as their orientation.
Co-curricular Activities
There is a large variety of co-curricular activities. You can find all information in our Vikings Co-Curricular Programme Handbook.
Childcare
Extended childcare is available for families where both parents are working. This starts at 7:30am and finishes at 4:30pm each day. Childcare can be booked through SchoolsBuddy. Prices can be found on our tuition policy.
Calendar
The school year in Norway usually starts in the middle of August. Before the school year officially starts, there is an orientation day for new Middle School and High School students. Early Childhood and Primary School students will be introduced to their new classroom teacher at the 'Meet the Teacher'-day.
Here you can find the school calendar https://isstavanger.no/about/calendar/.
You can also find information about public holidays in Norway on Relocation.no. One of the most unique Norwegian holidays is the National Constitution Day, 17 May.
Before starting at ISS, it is important to read through our ISS parent-student handbook which is on the ISS community portal.
There is no uniform at ISS.
