ESL DEPARTMENT REMOTE LEARNING GUIDELINES


The following document has been created by the ESL Department to guide your remote learning instruction to English language learners. Please contact the ESL teacher at your school or ESL Admin. if needed.


  • Classroom teachers should contact the ESL teacher with questions and concerns about ELs.

  • Classroom teachers should continue to differentiate instruction for ELs for virtual instruction or paper/pencil resources.

  • Classroom teachers should continue to contact ESL families with updates. Contact Herbert Vanegas or Brenda Cruz if needed: herbert_vanegas@iss.k12.nc.us or bcruz@iss.k12.nc.us

  • Classroom teachers could use google translate to communicate with families if needed. Download the app to translate short texts, send voice messages and translate simple documents in different languages

  • Google Translate Resources for Teachers

  • ESL staff should communicate remote learning plans with ESL admin and school admin.

  • ESL staff will meet with ESL PLC weekly to plan lessons and share resources.

  • ESL staff should join one or more grade-level virtual PLCs.
