THE IBDP
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is one of the most challenging pre-university programmes in the world. This course is widely accepted by top universities and employers globally.
The rigorous and demanding academic programme sees students studying six subject disciplines in addition to the core elements:
Study in Language & Literature (Language A)
Language Acquisition (Language B, or an additional Language A for the bilingual diploma)
Individuals & Societies (Humanities based subjects)
Sciences
Mathematics
Arts or Specialism (Often a second Language, Humanities or Science)
Students will have 3 higher level subjects (HL) and 3 standard level subjects (SL). The Higher levels should be selected based upon what students are passionate about, can succeed in and want to study at university. It is important to remember that university offers are often made on the strength of the scores students achieve in their HL subjects.
At the centre of the IBDP is the study of the Core areas:
Theory of Knowledge
Extended Essay
Creativity, Activity and Service
These disciplines are mandatory for all diploma students in addition to their six subject areas and enable students to apply critical thinking and real-life application to their study, which often differentiates IBDP students from their counterparts studying A-Levels or other alternative post 16 programmes.
Subject Blocks & Combinations at ISM:
Students must select one subject from each block shown below. To find out more about the subjects please visit our Post 16 Options website
We are working with students to make sure that the block combinations provide as many combinations that our students want as possible. If you want a combination of subjects not available on these blocks, please indicate this on your options return form. We cannot guarantee every combination, but we will do what we can to accommodate the majority of needs.
