Rewards and sanctions will be consistent from Class 7 to Class 13 and are linked to our School Values. Students can be given an "achievement" that is linked to one of the values. For example a student has put a lot of effort into class or a piece of work would be reward through the Learning value. These achievements are automatically collated by our Data Management System (DMS) and totals are visible to teachers and monitored by Homeroom teachers. "Achievements" are also automatically e mailed to you via the DMS
As with achievements all sanctions are also linked to the School Values. Any incident whereby the values have not been met will be addressed according to the individual circumstances that surround it. We reserve the right to investigate issues and incidents without informing parents if necessary. However, our aim is to always keep families informed wherever possible.
Some examples of behaviours and consequences are set out below.
You can scroll through the document below to explore our behaviour guidelines and for information on rewards and sanctions.
Please note that on Wednesdays school finishes at 13.00 for Class 7 - 9 and 15:00 for Class 10 - 13
Lateness and absence have a serious impact upon learning and individual progress. We therefore take both of them very seriously.
All students are expected to be in school by 08;15.
Class 11 - 13 students must be in class and ready to learn directly after break and lunchtime
All students are expected to be in class and ready to learn for the start of the lesson
Students who arrive to school late MUST sign in at reception. This is a safety issue so that we are able to update registers. An SMS message is sent to all parents of absent children for which we have not received a reason. This SMS would be sent if a student has come to school late and not signed in. It is therefore essential that students take the responsibility to follow this process.
4 unauthorised lates to registration will result in a Friday afternoon detention. The first offence will be for 30mins. Subsequent accumulations of a further 4 lates will be a 1 hour detention.
All students should attend school each and every day.
Medical absences must be supported by a medical certificate and the school should be informed of the medical absence at the start of the school day.
Any absences where a reason is not provided will be mark as "unauthorised". Absence percentages are recorded and reported.
The Head of Secondary may authorise absences where a good reason is provided. Examples could include but are not limited to: high level sports participation, family bereavement, unique opportunity for personal or academic development.
Personal absences that are not authorised by the Head of Secondary will be marked "reason not accepted" and will be recorded and reported as an unauthorised absence.
Please note that authorised absences are considered exceptional.
Absent (Approved by Head)
Absences authorised by the Head will be communicated in advance. Approved absences will be given for exceptional family situations, elite sporting activities or other high-level pursuits.
Absent (Medical)
Medical absences are provided where communication has been received from parents that a child is ill. For more than one day of consecutive absence, a medical certificate is required.
Absent (Reason not accepted)
A reason not accepted should be used when a reason has been offered but it is not approved by the Head
Absent (Unauthorised)
Unauthorised absence is marked when we have been given no reason for the absence or a medical absence is not backed up with a medical certificate.
Lesson Absence
Lesson absence is used for individual lesson registers where a child is not in the lesson.

Always a hot topic in education different schools take different approaches to the use and rules around mobile phones. Our ultimate goal is to help young people become responsible users of technology. ISM is on this journey but it is clear that phones should not be a distraction to learning. The expectations with regards to phones this year are as follows:
Class 7 - 10 phones will be handed into Homeroom Teachers at the start of the day and collected at 16.00
Class 11 - 13 phones will be placed in a marked box at the front of the classroom at the start of each lesson.
Phones should not be used or seen in the corridors and communal areas of the school.
