To support the goals for DEI at ISL, we will...
Connect with others and strengthen our own personal capacities to build an inclusive, equitable environment for all.
Process, integrate, and become an actor of the ISL DEI Policy.
Ensure teaching and learning at ISL incorporates our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
During our curriculum review session, you will be asked to consider aspects of the curriculum to determine how you might make revisions that centre DEI work. This may seem daunting: where do we begin? Do not let the size of the task freeze you with indecision. Begin where you can: with what you currently know. Begin with the student population in your class: whose voice may be underrepresented? Begin with one review, and go back and consider it again, and again through the lenses of different stakeholders. As you know, curriculum should be constantly evaluated and reconsidered to ensure it is meeting the needs of our learners and representing our school's mission and values. In this way, curriculum is a "living, breathing," ever-evolving component of our teaching and learning.
In the words of Ruth Bater Ginsberg, "Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time." Enjoy the start, (or continuation, as the case may be) of the journey!
