How do delegates deal with failure?
The delegate of the Syrian Arab Republic attempts to strike down a clause that “infringes on a country's sovereignty”. Stating how the clause tells the military what to do, rather than letting countries manage their own military, risks the power and safety of China. The delegate fears that if China cannot manage its military, how will China protect its borders? How can China protect itself if Taiwan attacks?
The delegate of the USA opposes Syria, stating that even if Taiwan orchestrates an attack, its naval military could never beat China’s. While mentioning taking steps towards the solution is better than taking none at all.
The House votes against striking this clause.
India tries to add a clause that provides humanitarian aid through the Taiwan straits, using organizations such as the Red Cross. To provide Taiwan with efficient access to aid in the case of a surprise attack by China. UAE rebuts India’s claim by stating how surprise attacks are very unlikely, mentioning how throughout the long period of this conflict, either party has attacked the other.
The House votes against adding this clause.
Russia proposes a clause that forces countries to inform if more military personnel are deployed. Aiming to help prevent any further attacks while increasing the transparency in the region. Additionally, this addition calls for a military reduction in the area, aiming to demilitarize the situation and create a peaceful solution instead.
The House votes to pass the amendment.
