There are 3 strands you will explore during the two-year Diploma Programme:
Creativity
Activity
Service
CAS experiences can fall under one, two, or all three of these strands
Creativity
Creativity = Any creative experience from the student’s talents, interests, passions, and imagination!
Note: it is NOT met by the appreciation of the creative efforts of others, such as attending a concert or art exhibition.
It can include any of the following activities:
Visual & performing arts: composing music, creating arts and crafts, painting a series of portraits, participating in drama productions, etc.
Literary arts: public speaking, creative writing, Model United Nations, etc.
Technology: coding/programming, designing, robotics etc.
Culinary arts: cooking and baking
Activity
Activity = Physical fitness activities
Experiences in this strand that involve physical movement and exertion and contribute to a healthy lifestyle
It may involve: recreational/competitive sports, strengthening/stamina, general fitness, rehabilitation, wellness activities
Outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling trips, rock climbing events count toward experiences as well.
Service
Service = Unpaid voluntary services to individuals or a community helping with an authentic need.
There are four kinds of Service actions:
Direct
Student interaction directly involves and benefits people/animals/the enviroment.
Indirect
Students do not see the recipients of indirect service, they have verified their actions will benefit the community or environment.
Examples of indirect service: goods/essential collection drives, fundraisers that will benefit a chosen set of individuals, organisations, or the environment
Advocacy
Students speaking on behalf of a cause or concern to promote action on an issue of public interest.
Examples of advocacy service: social media/physical campaigns about environmental protection/animal rights & well-being/human diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ).
Research
Students collect information through varied sources, analyse data, and report on a topic of importance to influence policy or practice.
Examples of research service: ISKL community partnership clubs working with inclusion (e.g. educating the general public on Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, etc).
