ASEnergyPPT

Using the school energy bill students completed an energy audit on our building. Students measure electricity, lighting, HVAC and water usage in each room. The compiled all their information to draw a schematic of energy use in the building. Based on the schematic students highlighted areas that are using too much energy or can be adjusted to save energy. Students decided to … (will implement changes that we decide on, still in progress.

"The energy audit helped us learn about how much energy we use."

Ney Nature Center - Soils and Water Conservation:

10 students attended YES! Workshop at Ney Nature Center in February. Students learned about water and soil conversation from local experts. Students participated in breakout sessions demonstrating watersheds. They also discussed and were shown examples of invasive water species. Students made Seed Bombs encouraging the planting of pollinators, wildflowers, and prairie plants. The seed bombs were brought back to the CLC where they will be grown into plants to be given away at Community Green Day event.

"Hearing from locals experts was super interesting."

Container Gardening:

In addition to vertical gardens to grow food in any location, students also learned about the benefits of container gardening. Using their Agriscape principles and PPT students created and designed “Themed Container Gardens”. Containers that are 18-20” and planted indoors. The “Themed Pots” share a theme such as aromatherapy, fruit, salsa, tea therapy, etc. The intent is for the students to plant their containers in the Spring and sell as the Community Green Day as a fundraiser for future projects.

"Learning about the many benefits plants have is engaging."
