Students researched Minnesota pollinator plants and natural insecticides. Student will compile class list for pollinators and insecticides and decide which plants to grow. Plants will be grown from seed starting in March using hydroponics and student made grow lights. Plants will be available for Community Green Day as fundraiser along with an educational station on pollinators and insecticides.
In the fall students spend one month on upcycling. Students were given a theme such as sign, shelf, or cabinet, and then designed and built an upcycled item. Items will be added to our online school store for donations and also available at Community Green Day. All items are for donations that will be used towards future projects.
This fall, students learned about the advantages of growing vertically instead of horizontally to save space and allow anyone to grow plants or food. Students were instructed to create a vertical garden using only recycled materials such as milk cartons, bottles, wood, etc. Students designed and built their vertical gardens. The gardens were used to plant microgreens and sprouts.
