The following information is required to be a substitute teacher in New Prague Area Schools.
A valid Minnesota teaching license or a valid Minnesota short call substitute teaching license is required. To obtain a substitute teaching license from the state of MN visit the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board website at https://mn.gov/pelsb/aspiring-educators/apply/ . Click on the "Online Licensing System" link under Substitute and Administrator License Applications.

Pre-employment Background Check - Following completion of an application you will be contacted by Human Resources who will send you a pre-employment background check. All prospective employees must pay for his/her background check. The cost is $22.00.
Employment Paperwork - Human Resources will send an email with a link to complete employment paperwork and review onboarding documents.
In-Person Meeting - After completing all other requirements an in-person meeting will be scheduled.
In your role as a substitute teacher, you may have access to student records and reports. All such materials should be handled in a confidential manner. Requests for student records should be referred to the building principal.

Licensed substitute teachers are responsible for knowing the principles of child development, accepted teaching techniques, educational programs and the rules and regulations of New Prague Area Schools.
As a substitute teacher traveling from school to school, you will observe many styles of teaching. Please understand that not all teachers teach in the same manner. Please make every effort to carry on the program of the regular teacher and to fit in with the schedule of that classroom.
Although it is a prerogative seldom used, we reserve the right to terminate the employment of a substitute teacher for any or no reason at all. Reasons for such action might include lack of initiative, frequent unavailability, unsatisfactory work, and inability to arrive at work on time or undue difficulty with discipline.
