Pine City Elementary Students Excel at Regional Math Masters Challenge
Students from Pine City Elementary School recently showcased their mathematical talents at the regional Math Masters Challenge held in Burnsville, where they earned top honors. The team of Maggie Judd, Ryker Burger, Hazel Olson, Nathan Hogberg, and Ryan Bjorklund claimed 1st place in the team category.
Math Masters is a program designed to promote excellence in critical thinking and problem-solving skills while recognizing students for their academic effort and achievement. Participants competed both individually and as teams across eight sets of challenging math problems.
Throughout the year, the students trained with their Math Masters coach, Mrs. Blake, to prepare for the event.
In the individual competition, Maggie Judd earned 2nd place overall, Nathan Hogberg took 3rd, Hazel Olson earned 4th, and Ryker Burger placed 5th. In the Fact Drill portion of the competition, Maggie Judd again earned 2nd place, while Ayla Kunze and Ryker Burger tied for 5th place.
Another Pine City Elementary team—Makayla Clepper, Ayla Kunze, Kimberly Locher, James Hanson, and Silas Nelson—also delivered an impressive performance, earning 2nd place in the team category.

2024 - St. Cloud State University
A group of 6th grade students had an opportunity to attend a Stem Conference (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with Mrs. Blake in early January. Students learned about AI, robotics, snakes and lizards and the science behind the yo-yo! (January 2024)
