CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT IN A TECHNOLOGY RICH CLASSROOM
Establish Common Vocabulary
Establish common vocabulary terms so students understand quickly what you want them to do.
For example, "Flat, Flip, Close, Close apps, Eyes Up, etc...
Practice using these terms so students know them and know what they mean.
Organize Your Technology
Use Seesaw or Canvas to organize digital assignments.
Use a Home Page that clearly defines Today's Work.
Have a home base for iPads where students put them when they are not in use.
Set Clear Expectations
Post expectations in your room where all students can see them.
Include students in the creation of the expectations.
Remind students often.
Align to Learning Objectives
Make sure you start with learning objectives when designing technology activities.
Be sure the technology is in service to the learning, not the other way around.
Go Beyond Digital Worksheets
Use technology to access new learning and show what you know.
Use creative apps to allow students to use technology to deepen learning.
Think about how audio, video, images, presentation, communication, and collaboration play a role in engaging and challenging students.
Monitor Students
Move around the room to check in on what students are doing.
Use technology to free you up from being at the front of the classroom.
Use Apple Classroom when appropriate to monitor student engagement.
Use Canvas or Seesaw to keep track of what students have completed.
Have a Plan B
Expect things not to go as planned.
Have a no-tech solution just in case.
Plan how you can model how to deal with technical issues.
Students can take a picture of it and turn it in digitally to Seesaw or Canvas later.
Set Up Tech Help Protocols
Think about how students can let you know when they have a technology issue.
Use common vocabulary - Ask 3 before me
Try basic troubleshooting on your own - Restart, Reinstall, Reconnect
Empower students to help each other
