What does the Book Fair committee do?

The Book Fair committee plans. prepares and hosts a spring and fall book fair.

What is the Book fair?

Three times a year at Normandale Hills the Book Fair committee hosts a book fair. Because we use Scholastic, we also receive a small credit that is used towards school programs and classroom libraries. 

What type of volunteers does the Book fair committee need?

Patient ones! The kids bring money to school to buy books and it can get crazy during the shifts, especially when the younger kids forget about tax or aren't quite sure if their money covers the books they want. 

We currently have a wonderful book fair chair who works with our scholastic partners to run the book fair but we are always looking for more people to learn the ropes and share the load. 

​What type of activities are involved?

Committee volunteer activities:

• ​Coordinate the book fair with Scholastic

• Line up volunteers (if needed ask Communication to put out a volunteer request in the PTA newsletter)

• create a flyer for the event to be put on the website

• check with the Communications board member to publish a reminder about this event in the newsletter before the event takes place

• Set up and tear down the book fair

Event volunteer activities:

• Read through instructions on how to run the till prior to your shift

• Show up at requested time and sell, sell, sell! 

• Volunteers are also needed to help set up and tear down the book fair! 

When and how much time will it take me to volunteer?

The book fair committee holds three book fairs. The Fall book fair (September/October), the Spring book fair (March), and the BOGO book fair (May). The book fair typically runs 5 days from  7:30-9am, and 3 pm - 6 pm daily. We try to get at least 2 volunteers per shift available to share the load and help out parents.
