Regular attendance is one of the biggest factors in student success. Even when students make up assignments, they can miss important classroom instruction, discussions, and opportunities to practice new skills.
Students who attend school regularly are more likely to:
Earn higher grades.
Stay connected to teachers and classmates.
Build positive routines.
Stay on track for graduation.
If your student is experiencing attendance challenges, please reach out early. Kennedy staff are here to partner with families and connect students with supports.
They define "chronic absence" as missing 10% or more of school days (two days a month) for any reason, which serves as a key early-warning sign for dropping out.

Minnesota law requires school attendance for school-age children.
When attendance becomes a concern, schools first work with students and families to identify barriers and provide support. If unexcused absences continue, additional interventions or county support may be considered.
