We Bridge the Opportunity Gap ... Equipping Our Students to Close the Achievement Gap
The heart of compassion within the Education Foundation of Bloomington is the Children's Food for Thought (CFT) program—an indispensable initiative providing nourishing school lunches to students during times of financial crisis within their families. Whether facing a temporary setback, navigating the eligibility process for federal food assistance, or experiencing a financial challenge, Children's Food for Thought stands as a steadfast support.
Despite the state of Minnesota extending the Free Lunch for Kids program, it only provides one serving of a breakfast and lunch per day. A second breakfast, a second lunch, second entree and additional drinks are considered a la carte items and must be priced at the adult meal rate. The meal program also does not cover After School snacks. Schools are not required to provide second meals, second entrees or other a la carte items if a student does not have the funds available to pay for the item(s).
Our mission is clear: to ensure that no student goes without a nutritious school lunch. Since its inception, CFT has been a beacon of hope, contributing $93,900 to supply approximately 34,000 nourishing meals for Bloomington Public School students. Every dollar invested in this program not only fills a lunch tray but also fuels the potential of our students, reinforcing our commitment to fostering a community where every child can thrive, learn, and grow.
