Class Description
Earn your Personal Care Assistant certification so that you can work in healthcare immediately. You will also learn about the healthcare career pathway, basic human body systems, vocabulary, and will improve your reading skills in healthcare topics. Includes a guest speaker from the field and a visit from the Career Pathways Coordinator.
You must answer 20 of 25 questions correctly to pass the certification test. You can retake this test more than once.
PCAs provide support with: 1) personal hygiene, including bathroom visits, bathing, dressing, and brushing teeth; 2) engaging clients in suitable activities, such as playing games, taking walks, or having conversations; 3) performing basic housekeeping duties, including cleaning, laundry, and preparing meals.
Minimum Requirements
Class Group 2, 3, and 4 (see eligibility chart on the HOME page)
Pass at least 1 Northstar test
You need to use a computer to complete assignments

Duties include:
Assists residents with personal care including bathing, shaving, dressing, hair care, feeding, toileting, and transfers/lifts.
Under the direction of a Nurse provides health-related services as needed such as; passing medication, glucose monitoring, temperatures, blood pressure, and pulse.
Performs specified home services as needed such as laundry, cleaning, meal service, and assisting with activities.
Observes residents and reports status to appropriate staff
Other duties as assigned
