Energy Assistance Program (EAP) facts
Renters & homeowners are eligible.
Assets such as the home are not considered in determining eligibility.
Grants range from $300 to $1,600, based on household size, income, and fuel cost.
The average grant is about $550.
In addition to the initial grant, additional Crisis funds are available to:
Help pay a past due bill or get an emergency fuel delivery.
Help homeowners get their broken furnace repaired or replaced.
Recent program changes to help more people
Doubled Crisis funds to $1,200 (from $600) per household.
Extended the deadline to apply to September 1, 2021. And applications for next year’s season (2021-2022) open on September 2, so there is no break in the ability to apply.
Raised the income limit from 50 percent to 60 percent of the state’s median income, which makes about 100,000 more Minnesota households eligible.
