May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Anxiety is another serious mental health issue that is common among teens. Anxiety disorders are also common among teens. Approximately one in three teens meet the criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders (DSM-5) by the time they reach age eighteen. There are several types of anxiety disorders, but phobias and separation disorders are those seen most often. Like depression, anxiety disorders are also more common in females than males. Talk to your parents or counselor if you think you or a friend may need help or have questions about anxiety. Remember to take time to do something you enjoy this weekend.
Our traditional 8th grade picnic is fast approaching. Scheduled for May 17th, it is a day for 8th graders to get away from the campus and enjoy the company of friends and teachers they have grown with over the last few years in middle school. It is a special event that has some special requirements in order to attend. Please look at the flyer and encourage your child to give their best effort as we round down the year.
We have less than 20 copies left for our 2024 school yearbook, being given to students mid-May. Check out a sneak preview below of one of our sports pages! Copies can be bought for $40 in cash room #126 or online at bit.ly/bowieyearbook
