Irving ISD
We have several Good Things happening at Bowie Middle School. These following Good Things tie directly to our school's Mission, Vision, and Values and deserve to be showcased!
We cannot express enough gratitude towards our teachers who do everything it takes for our students. They continually monitor their students progress in IXL, Achieve3000 and Dreambox. This short video was made to recognize them.
Please join us for our Zoom session informing you of the 2021 TELPAS test.
At our meeting you will learn the following:
What is TELPAS?
What are the requirements for exiting the Emerging English Learner program?
How does TELPAS impact my student in the future?
What are important dates?
How can I help my child be successful while attending school and taking the TELPAS?

Captuing Kids' Hearts - In January, our Bowie Cubs are learning about RESPECT. Click the links below to see how you can practice at home:
Taking it home: Respect (en EspaNol)
What is Respect?
Respect is the willingness and ability to act professionally and thoughtfully with ourselves and others. Leaders can deal respectfully with opposition and provide space for both dignity and differences to coexist.
Why focus on Respect?
Respect contributes to a positive culture. People feel safe, supported, and engaged in the context of thoughtful social, emotional, civic, and intellectual interactions.
Respect decreases conflict. Respect helps us, and others, to be able to express ourselves without fear of being judged, humiliated, or discriminated against.
Respect encourages empathy. Respect helps us to understand each other and put ourselves in someone else shoes.
Respect in Action:
Teach students words have power. How we talk to others, and ourselves, can motivate or discourage, connect or destroy, hurt or heal. We should choose our words with care.
Create opportunities for group decision-making. Open dialogue engages students in a process where compromise is crucial to making decisions.
Vary protocols for classroom sharing. Frequently use open-ended questions, partner sharing, and small group activities to connect and promote understanding between students.
Rain or Shine we want our Bowie Cubs at school!
IXL is designed to support students toward authentic skill mastery, and research shows this approach works. Students use IXL twice a week in their Math and ELAR classes. At the moment, we are having all student complete their IXL Diagnostic, IXL's Diagnostic is a flexible tool that reveals exactly what students know and helps you take actionable steps to foster growth at every level. IXL's Diagnostic creates a personalized action plan for each student. With these recommended skills, you have a simple way to close learning gaps and facilitate meaningful progress. Bowie Middle School purchased IXL for every student and we cannot wait to see their academic progress.
Achieve3000 is used in Science, Social Studies and English Language Arts and Reading classes. Achieve3000 helps your students become better readers. Students are given a LevelSet Assessment the first week of school to determine their Lexile level (reading level). When they are assigned articles to read, the articles are "differentiated" by student, meaning every students receives similar information at different reading levels. Every article has an "Activity" (Embedded Assessment) and students have two attempts to pass. When students are able to score 75% or higher on their first try for at minimum four activities, their Lexile is increased!
Bowie hoodies ($ 20) and T-shirts ($ 10) are on sale in the main office.

Any individuals who are lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 must stay at home throughout the infection period. These individuals cannot return to campus until the school system screens the individual to determine if all three of the following criteria are met:
At least one day (24 hours) has passed since recovery (resolution of fever without the use of fever reducing medications); AND
The individual has improvement in symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath); AND
At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
Any individual with symptoms that could be COVID-19, but they were not evaluated by a medical professional or not tested for COVID-19, the student is assumed to have COVID-19 and may not return until the individual has met the same 3 step criteria above. If the individual wants to return to school before completing the 10 days stay at home, the student must either: (a) obtain a medical professional’s note clearing for return based on an alternative diagnosis or (b) take the rapid antigen test and receive a negative test result.
