Irving ISD
We have several Good Things happening at Bowie Middle School. These following Good Things tie directly to our school's Mission, Vision, and Values and deserve to be showcased!
We are so proud of Alize Smithwick for being one out of twenty students in the country to win a drone from Achieve3000!
Since 2010, Bowie Middle School has had 7 principals and the original Facebook Page was lost in the transitions. Bowie MS has an active twitter page and is now adding a Private Facebook Group to continue to share information with all.
On April 18, 2022, we stat the last six weeks of school. Continue encouraging your students to FINISH the school year STRONG.
GRADES: The 5th Six Weeks Report Card Grades will be posted on HAC this Friday. Check your students grades and have them make tutoring arrangements with their teachers, if needed. Click on the link to access your students grades: https://homeaccess.irvingisd.net/HomeAccess
May is for Integrity
Live with honesty and excellence
What is Integrity?
Integrity is the ability and willingness to live with honesty and excellence. People who act with integrity make a choice to do the right thing, no matter who is watching. Integrity is the foundation on which we build relationships and trust.
Why focus on Integrity?
Integrity generates trust. When we are honest and follow through on promises, we gain the confidence of our team; Trust allows us to collaborate and achieve more together.
Integrity encourages self-assessment. Integrity requires our regular self-assessment to align behaviors with our goals and self-beliefs.
Integrity is essential in leadership. Great leaders decrease anxiety and build strong teams when they are honest, consistent, and responsible.
At Bowie MS we put Integrity in Action by:
Acknowledging and affirming acts with integrity. Publicly praising students who model acts of integrity such as honesty and honor. Encouraging students to identify classmates who show integrity.
Using scenarios and role play. Challenging students with real-life scenarios and situations that allow them to reflect, discuss, and choose the best next step or action.
Creating a culture of accountability. Inviting students to give you feedback. Asking students to rate the class based on your Social Contract. Empowering students with choice-based consequences.
LAUNCH TO SUCCESS Tutoring for every cub, every morning and every afternoon
If your student is finding it difficult to complete 30 minutes of IXL/Achieve3000/Dreambox at home, have them attend LANUCH in the cafeteria.
Our cafeteria doors open at 6:45 AM for the before school tutoring.
After school tutoring ends at 4:45 PM.
IXL is designed to support students toward authentic skill mastery, and research shows this approach works. Students use IXL twice a week in their Math and ELAR classes. At the moment, we are having all student complete their IXL Diagnostic, IXL's Diagnostic is a flexible tool that reveals exactly what students know and helps you take actionable steps to foster growth at every level. IXL's Diagnostic creates a personalized action plan for each student. With these recommended skills, you have a simple way to close learning gaps and facilitate meaningful progress. Bowie Middle School purchased IXL for every student and we cannot wait to see their academic progress.
Achieve3000 is used in Science, Social Studies and English Language Arts and Reading classes. Achieve3000 helps your students become better readers. Students are given a LevelSet Assessment the first week of school to determine their Lexile level (reading level). When they are assigned articles to read, the articles are "differentiated" by student, meaning every students receives similar information at different reading levels. Every article has an "Activity" (Embedded Assessment) and students have two attempts to pass. When students are able to score 75% or higher on their first try for at minimum four activities, their Lexile is increased!
During February we will celebrate Black History Month, love and kindness.
Bowie hoodies ($ 20) and T-shirts ($ 10) are on sale in the main office.

Bowie Middle School had such a great turn out for our first All Pro Dads meeting. It was awesome to see so many fathers, uncles, brothers, and single moms (who do both roles) come out and support their Bowie Cubs. Great memories were made and we look forward to doing it again next month.
If you were not able to attend, our next meeting will be on May 19, 2022 at 7:30 AM in the Bowie Library. Breakfast will be provided so please RSVP below, or by clicking this link so we know how many people are coming. There will be prizes!
Speak Up for Safety was created by the At-Risk & Response Services Department as a single pathway for staff, students or community members to easily report concerns about safety including : bullying, planned fights, students in crisis, threats of violence, weapons in school and other urgent situations

Any individuals who are lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 must stay at home throughout the infection period. These individuals cannot return to campus until the school system screens the individual to determine if all three of the following criteria are met:
At least one day (24 hours) has passed since recovery (resolution of fever without the use of fever reducing medications); AND
The individual has improvement in symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath); AND
At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
Any individual with symptoms that could be COVID-19, but they were not evaluated by a medical professional or not tested for COVID-19, the student is assumed to have COVID-19 and may not return until the individual has met the same 3 step criteria above. If the individual wants to return to school before completing the 10 days stay at home, the student must either: (a) obtain a medical professional’s note clearing for return based on an alternative diagnosis or (b) take the rapid antigen test and receive a negative test result.
