The CAD Mechanical Design courses are divided in the multiple sections like our CAD Architectural Design courses. Again this is to build and develop basic and essential skills that are then used to create and develop more and more complex concepts and ideas.
CAD Mechanical 1 focuses on the critical skills associated with technical drawings including line types, weights, and sheet lay out. This is done through projects that are open ended and allow students two become fully vested in the process by selecting intrinsically motivated ideas that meet the assignment specifications.
CAD Mechanical Design 1 (Formerly Mechanical Design Technology 1 or Pre-Engineering)
CE Course(s): IEDT 1010 Introduction to Engineering Design Technology (3 Cr)
Credits: .5 AT, IT or EL
Prerequisites: None
This is the first exploratory course for those students looking to enter into an engineering or design technology career. Students are introduced to CAD software and the engineering process. They learn to keep and manage industry documentation such as engineering drawings and graphics as well as others such as an Engineering Notebook. Students are shown and practice making 3D models and drawings of mechanical parts and explore the design process through self chosen projects including a 3D derby car and pen design. Students will be introduced to 2D plans and 3D printing/Rapid Prototyping during this course.
Students are welcome and encouraged to take part in either SkillsUSA or TSA (Technology Student Association) the Career & Technical Student Organizations that align with this subject matter.
Software: Inventor/Solidworks, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Excel, Word, Power Point
