Reading Recovery is an early intervention program for first grade students. Selected students receive 30 minutes of individualized instruction each day with a highly trained Reading Recovery specialist. This intensive reading instruction is geared specifically for each individual child and works from his or her strengths to clear up any weaknesses. Students in the Reading Recovery program learn strategies that will help them to become independent readers and writers who can participate fully in their classrooms. Most students achieve this goal in 12 to 20 weeks.
When appropriate progress is made, the student will be discontinued by their Reading Recovery and classroom teachers and are expected to make progress in the classroom as an average first grader. If a student does not make appropriate progress, they are recommended for further action and services are provided as needed.
