Plastic Pollution has caused over 100 million marine animals to die each year. Plastic takes a very long time to biodegrade so every single plastic made is still on this earth as you know it. Most of the plastic we make ends up in landfill or in the ocean. There are two ways to get rid of plastic but it causes other problems to. One is to burn plastic but it will release CO2 in the air and cause air pollution, the other way is to put it in the ground but, it will release CO2 into the soil with will make the soil unusable. Plastic is very bad for the planet but people still use it!
There is hope for getting rid of plastic. Recently, scientists have accidentally created an enzyme that actually eats plastic! This enzyme was a wax worm. The wax worm were not that efficient. It would take 100 wax worms to digest a piece of styrofoam, so, scientists are thinking of other ways to get rid of plastic. On April 22 2018 was Earth Day, that was the day that everyone realized how bad plastic was. People started to clean up the plastic and started to think of ideas to stop it. Jane Dalton came up with an idea that would tackle the great pacific garbage patch. His idea was to put borders on the ocean so the plastic would be stopped by the border while the fish and water go under it.
We could help by reusing, reducing and recycling plastic and warn other people about it if they didn't get the message. Donate to The Ocean Cleanup below in order to complete their research and speed up the process to save our earth. You could also make your own company and fund your own clean-up system to make a difference in YOUR country. Remember, every little difference you make, it change everything. So what would your difference be?
