The government affects our everyday life. They make the laws we follow, they keep our economy stable, and they provide protection. Would you be surprised to learn that in some places the government isn't as helpful. Take a look into the effects of government corruption in Venezuela, what you can do to help, and what was the cause of the problem.
What is Government Corruption?
Government Corruption is when a government does something that harms their country for their own gain in some way. It could lead to serious problems in the community as side effects could have something to do with health and the economy. Since most people rely on a steady income of money and food, and destabilization of those things is hurtful.
What are the effects of government corruption?
Corruption has caused the economic system to destabilize, and monetary value to plummet to basically worthless. It has caused much inequality, mistreatment, encroachment of rights, and deaths. For example in 2017, people protested in the streets from the 31st of March to the 12 of August, the result was 165 death and over 4,000 arrests. Something that would usually be people in the streets, making their issue known without conflict turned into something terrible. Poverty has been another big issue due to the price of oil lowering and Venezuelan leaders deciding to make their country rely heavily on oil manufacturing and exporting by closing down private companies.
How can we help?
The effects of corruption in Venezuela are issues that the average person would have no ability to fix, so I took a look somewhere else. There is one simple way to help. It's very important to donate, people need the money or supplies we send and companies also need funding to achieve their goals. So donating is one of the most crucial ways to help the people. Keep in mind it is not permanent so there is no current to the problem, but we can make it less severe this way. Foundations like Cuatro por Venezuela and I.L.V (I Love Venezuela) are helping individuals in need. So If possible try to donate, even small amounts help. We could also support the migration of Venezuelan citizens to other countries. This is a more permanent solution since people wouldn't have to rely on just what we give them, and besides they would be in a better living environment.
